The Library provides a large number of databases on many subjects, FREE with your library card! Whether you are doing research,  repairing a car, looking up a law or finding a good book, these databases have a wealth of information for you. You can access many of them from home or work!

ArtistWorks for Libraries offers users everything they need for musical and artistic instruction, from introduction to advanced performance.  Free with your SNHL library card. BiblioBoard

BiblioBoard Library is an easy-to-use platform that allows access to high-quality content to patrons on the web and on eReaders. Supporting books, articles, documents, images, audio and video, BiblioBoard Library is host to content from traditional publishers, indie authors, cultural institutions and local thought leaders. Users can access BiblioBoard Library through the library’s website or on the device of their choice, including the iPad®, iPad® mini, Kindle Fire® HD, Galaxy Tab ®, Nexus® and more.

JobGateway

JobGateway (www.jobgateway.pa.gov) is Pennsylvania’s free job matching tool for job seekers and employers. In addition to having access to thousands of Pennsylvania job openings, job seekers can also use JobGateway to:

  • Construct a resume using a step-by-step template
  • Create a personal employment plan and discover transferable skills through an assessment tool
  • Explore a new career path by watching videos that capture a day-in-the-life of professionals in a variety of fields
  • Improve interview skills with interactive training
  • Search job-training opportunities
  • View PA job statistics, facts, and news
  • Find detailed information pertaining to education, skills, knowledge, and comparable wages of specific occupations
  • And much more!

The website can be translated into Spanish and viewed on a mobile device or tablet. Additional services are available for veterans and job seekers with disabilities.

Mango Languages

Mango is an online language-learning system that can help you learn languages like Spanish, French, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, German, Mandarin Chinese, Greek, Italian, Russian and more.  For children, try Little Pim!

SELF-e

SELF-e is an innovative collaboration between Library Journal and BiblioBoard® that enables authors and libraries to work together to expose notable self-published ebooks to eager readers looking to discover something new. Using SELF-e, Shaler North Hills Library will be able to take submissions from its local indie authors and make those ebooks available to any participating library across Pennsylvania on BiblioBoard’s award-winning PatronsFirst™ platform. Libraries can make these ebooks available with no checkouts or returns and no multi-user limitations.

Indie authors who submit their work to Shaler North Hills Library also have the opportunity to opt-in to have their book selected by Library Journal editors to become part of a unique discovery platform for participating libraries across the United States & Canada. This emerging indie discovery platform enables patrons to read ebooks on any device, at any time.

This database has online courses including career tools, ESL, medical terminology, time management, Microsoft Office, spelling 101, resume writing, customer service and many more. These courses are taught by instructors and available free with your  SNHL library card.  Please contact the library if you have a card from another library in Allegheny County.
