Facilities and Equipment
A large community room and a small conference room may be rented to community
groups and individuals.
Typewriter
There is a typewriter for public use on the first floor.
There is a small fee for use.
Four cabinets in the second floor hallway and one in the
Children's Department are used for changing displays.
Computers
The library is fully automated with a
online
catalog available for searching by author, title, subject and keyword.
Search for materials available at the Shaler North Hills Library or in one
of the county libraries. The library offers
computer
classes for teaching the mouse, the online catalog, the Internet and
Word.
All publicily available computers have access to the Internet, online databases
(Ebscohost, InfoTrac, PoemFinder etc.) and the Microsoft Office Suite (Access,
Excel, Word and PowerPoint). Additional computers are also available in the
Children's department with games and instructional materials. Children older
than 8 can sign up to work individually, younger children should work with
a parent. There is no fee to use but you must have a valid library card.
While working on the computers,
you must save your work to your own disk or Flash drive. Black/white printing is 20 cents per
page. Color printing is 50 cents per page. Please remember to use the Print
preview feature to determine how many pages will print.
COMPUTER LAB
A publicly accessible facility with access to the Internet
and Microsoft Office Suite as well as computers with assistive technologies;
JAWS, MAGic, VoiceCat and Kurzweil Reader with a scanner. Computer lab hours
are posted throughout the library and are subject to change.
